Description of the collection
Political pamphlets relating especially to the rise of socialism; publications of societies both pro- and anti-socialist; material on the role of labour and the working-classes, trade unions, Fabianism; some pamphlets on contemporary political developments in the British Empire and colonies. Pre-1901 Collis pamphlets have been given 'Vet.' shelfmarks, post-1900 have been given alphanumeric shelfmarks, but all can be located using 'Collis' as a keyword search term; pamphlets from the John Johnson Collection of Printed Ephemera have been assigned 'Johnson' shelfmarks.
Provenance
The collection comprises pamphlets know as the Collis Collection, political material acquired c.1970. It was kept with the John Johnson Collection of Printed Ephemera (transferred to the Bodleian from the Oxford University Press in 1968), and has been augmented by pamphlets extracted from the political sections of this collection.
